In Literature
Huber & Lerner has often been mentioned in literary work by well-known writers and literary artists in the present and the past.
"Wiener Traditionsbetriebe - Ein Stück vom alten Wien" by Dr. Freya Martin
Dr. Freya Martin invites readers on a new, exciting journey into the past of old Viennese companies in her new book, following the great success of her 2018 picture tome “Wiener Traditionsgeschäfte”. Approximately 160 fascinating pictures stir memories of long-established firms. An important chapter in the city’s history.
As a result, we are particularly proud of being mentioned in this lovingly put-together picture volume. This book of new discoveries and re-discoveries is available at our store at Weihburggasse 4 and, of course, at good bookshops everywhere.
"Auf den Spuren von Otto Wagner - Spaziergänge durch Wien" by Gregor Auenhammer, Styria Verlag
Gregor Auenhammer’s book from autumn 2018 documents the many examples of Otto Wagner’s work seen during his walks through Vienna: from large-scale city projects to public buildings, magnificent apartments, and commercial buildings to private villas.
The reader also learns fascinating facts about numerous traditional Viennese shops and businesses, as well as about this extraordinary architecture, along the way. Huber & Lerner is mentioned several times in this book, which is available at good bookshops and at our store.
“Anmerkung: Prominent” Die Geschichte der Familie Winterstein 1867-1945, by Werner Winterstein, Böhlau Verlag
"On Wednesday, 28th February 1923, it was finally official – the ‘Oberst’ officially became ‘Oberst d. R.’ according to the official document. One of his first journeys was to Huber & Lerner on the Kohlmarkt in Vienna’s Inner City to order new stationery and cards stating the corresponding changes. There, time seemed to have stood still, as was the case in many traditional places, and this was very comforting for the staunch monarchist. As he gave his order, he took a look at the display case inset in the sales counter and realised with satisfaction that the templates for printed wedding announcements had not changed much in terms of their typical, traditional nobility. Aristocratic titles and high honours were there to be seen again, as expected. Deep in thought, he turned around and wandered towards the exit, where a young, swift assistant already waited, bowed, and opened the door for him: “Goodbye, Herr Oberst! I hope Herr Oberst will visit us again soon!” He walked into the street, turned up the collar of his coat due to the sharp wind and turned left in the direction of Michaelerplatz.”

"Meine Preise" by Thomas Bernhard
Meine Preise (my prizes) is an autobiographical prose text, published in 2009, by the Austrian novelist Thomas Bernhard. Bernhard discusses nine literary prizes he has won over nine chapters. We are mentioned on several occasions in the chapter relating to the renowned Anton Wildgans Prize. The invitations to the awards ceremony were produced by Huber & Lerner at that time.
“The invitations to the ceremony arrived. On ostentatious, printed paper from the famous printing company Huber & Lerner on the Kohlmarkt … I cancelled the ceremony and sent out the same, freshly printed invitations from Huber & Lerner … again in the same, Spanish Hapsburg style of court notifications from Huber & Lerner in black and gold.”
