Paper & Souvenirs
There are two product lines focused on famous personalities within our Paper & Souvenir range. Sigmund Freud, who was himself a customer of Huber & Lerner, and the famous architect Otto Wagner were the inspiration for a series of exclusive stationery items depicting Vienna for tourists interested in culture.
Sigmund Freud at Huber & Lerner
Sigmund Freud was once a customer of Huber & Lerner and used the Edelpost collection, which is still available for purchase today, for his correspondence, as a sheet of his personal writing paper printed with the address Bergasse 19 from the Sigmund Freud Museum Vienna confirms.
The “Edelpost” correspondence card set was created in the style of Freud's original stationery. As well as an exact reproduction of the notebook carried by Sigmund Freud on most of his trips. Writing was central to Freud’s work. He also wrote vast numbers of letters, cards and notes in his spare time – thus, Sigmund Freud’s handwriting has been integrated into this product as a repeating feature. The writing paper and notebook are available from Huber & Lerner and the museum shop at the Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna.
The Otto Wagner Collection
In 2018, Wien Museum ran an impressive, large-scale exhibition on the complete works of Otto Wagner, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the death of the Viennese architect. Wien Museum asked Huber & Lerner to create a writing paper product in celebration of this event in cooperation with the museum shop. Thus, an exclusive writing paper and notelet set was developed by Huber & Lerner using original designs by Otto Wagner from the Wien Museum archive in Karlsplatz. It was produced using products from the Huber & Lerner Edelpost collection.
We regularly look for new product ideas which have a historical context. The Otto Wagner writing paper design, which was developed for the architect’s 70th birthday in 1911, was created the same decade that Huber & Lerner was founded in – in 1901. We took a historic plan from the year 1914, which illustrates the door of our former shop in the Kohlmarkt from the archive, which had a very similar typography to the writing paper design used by Otto Wagner. The new products were presented together with the historical plans in March 2018 in a special shop window display, which was created as always by the Schaufensterinnen.
