Pelikan
Quality and Fine Writing since 1838
For more than 180 years Pelikan combines excellent quality with perfect functionality and classic design. The brand offers the finest handmade writing instruments "Made in Germany". Decades of experience and crafted by trained experts, each fountain pen from the house of Pelikan is a masterpiece of its own.
In the year 1929 Pelikan was the first company in the world to introduce the differentiated piston mechanism. This technique causes the spindle inside the fountain pen to turn quicker than the end piece of the barrel, with the help of two different threads. To this date, this fountain pen exists in many different variations, and though it has been developed in design and technical details over time, the basic mechanism remains the same.
Fine Writing History of Pelikan
In the year 1838 the chemist Carl Horneman opens the first manufacturing site for coloured inks. In 1871, Günther Wagner bought the company from Carl Hornemann. He registered the pelican as one of the first trademarks in Germany for his products in 1879. Starting from 1901 Pelikan ink is a bestselling product all over the world.
In the year 1929, the first fountain pen with the famous piston filling mechanism was launched. Also known as the "transparent Pelikan fountain pen", it received its name from the transparent ink container, which made it easier to monitor the ink capacity. Apart from the striking, jade green barrel, the fountain pen was rather plain looking and did not receive a model number either.
In 1950, after several years of development, the Pelikan fountain pen 400 was launched. The remarkable green transparent striped ink container became a color symbol for the Pelikan fountain pen, which has yet remained.

Blackwing
The original Blackwing 602 was considered the best pencil in the world and had numerous well-known fans: Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck, Leonard Bernstein and the creator of Bugs Bunny were all loyal users. This was the reason the traditional, Californian company California Cedar bought Blackwing and brought it back to life. This manufacturer of pencils is in its sixth generation and boasts 150 years of experience and makes Blackwings in Japan using Californian cedar. Japanese graphite is by far the best in the world. The wax added to it creates a butter-soft feeling and fits the Blackwing 602 slogan “Half the pressure – twice the speed” perfectly.
